SITUATION:

Gemma Power Systems, LLC selected BOND to be the civil and utility contractor for the Exelon West Medway II project. The scope of work included all site civil work, installation of equipment and tank foundations, underground piping systems, underground electrical duct banks, and cathodic and grounding grid network. The 200 MW expansion of Exelon’s West Medway Generation Station will support ISO New England’s requirement to provide ‘peaking’ power when needed.

CHALLENGES:

  • Fast track project
  • Critical operations and peak manpower during winter months
  • Small acreage site requiring daily planning and coordination with all project members

SOLUTIONS:

  • Consistent communication with suppliers and subcontractors
  • Management of critical path schedule and planning of work operations and activities
  • Coordination with other subcontractors on project

RESULTS:

  • Enabled the delivery of a long-term peaking resource to support ISO New England’s generation requirements
  • Maintained quality of products despite adverse Northeast winter weather conditions
  • Supported EPC contractors fast-track project schedule
  • BOND’s scope of work completed fall 2018 within budget
