SITUATION:
Enbridge (formerly Spectra) selected BOND to install and construct a new Solar Mars 100 turbine, an air compressor skid, compressor building, three new electrical control buildings, gas coolers, several piping modifications and the replacement of the compressed air system on an active site. The project consisted of new systems for fuel gas, domestic ESD, lube oil, electrical, cathodic protection, and security.
CHALLENGES:
- Coordination of excavation, installation and tie-in of new piping and equipment at a live station
- Highly-sensitive area required regular environmental visits from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC)
- Community relations management
SOLUTIONS:
- Utilized Virtual Design Construction (VDC) to laser scan existing facility and coordinate tie-ins
- Assisted in the development of an environmental controls program to aide in monitoring site to ensure compliance with all federal and local permits
- BOND developed site security plan ensuring proper check-in procedures were upheld for all deliveries
RESULTS:
- Successfully completed all tie-ins on schedule even after month long permitting delays
- BOND and Enbridge were given full compliance on project and praised by FERC for their environmental management process
- Excellent safety record and community relations management programs
